The New Year's Questionnaire

New Year's questionnaire (again, again). But you know me, I can't resist a meme... so here goes.

Well, I was hoping that 2011 was going to be an improvement on 2010 and that this year's answers to these questions would be a bit more upbeat. But apparently it wasn't to be, so now all hopes are riding on 2012...

So here's my review of this pretty much craptastic year. Somewhat depressingly, many of my answers are in fact exactly the same as last year.

Thanks again to Linda for this...

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?

Spend the entire year as a single mother. Funnily enough, I don't really recommend it...

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I didn't really make any resolutions last year. As a result, I'll probably try and think up something vaguely attainable for 2012 (say, eating less crap or going to bed earlier) and hope I fare better

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Not really. People I know from the girls' school (hey, it's a Catholic school...!), but not any close friends.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No, thankfully.

5. What countries did you visit?

Scotland and Italy (though not in that order)

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?

Same answer as last year - the love of a sane, intelligent, financially independent, funny, charming, sexy man

7. What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory and why?

2011 was a non-specifically crappy year with a few good points, but no actual dates jump out at me, I must admit

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Not going bankrupt, apparently

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not managing to keep my life financially and emotionally afloat

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Same answer as last year: Nothing except from horrendous allergies all the time, at their worst in February-March

11. What was the best thing you bought?

The two digital cameras I bought for the girls way back at the beginning of 2011 and gave them for Christmas - they were overjoyed!

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

Can't think of anyone in particular

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

As last year - my ex on occasion (though things are OK at the moment); in CelebWorld, many people get up my nose: Kardashians, LiLo, Mariah Carey, most footballers...

14. Where did most of your money go?

Trying to keep me and my girls afloat

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

I don't seem to have the ability to get "really, really excited" about anything, though I was happy to go on holiday to Italy with the girls in August, and again when my friend J and her family came to visit in July, and when another friend, D, came to visit in August

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?

There are several - Hot Chelle Rae's "Tonight, tonight", Simple Plan's "Jet lag" (the French version), Adele's "Someone like you", Colbie Caillat's "Bubbly", the Glee version of Stevie Nicks' "Landslide", the Glee duet "I feel pretty/Unpretty", and many others

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? About the same

b) thinner or fatter? Probably a little fatter

c) richer or poorer? Also about the same - too in debt, anyway

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Laugh, smile, see friends, go out, do things for me

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Cry, feel sorry for myself

20. How did you spend Christmas?

The girls and I travelled to see my dad in Scotland. We arrived late on 21 December and came home on 29 December (though we left Scotland the day before). It was nice, and the girls had a lot of fun.

21. Did you fall in love in 2010?

Hahahahahahahaha
22. What was your favourite TV programme?

I still enjoy Glee and the French version of MasterChef, but I also watched (on DVD) all 4 seasons of Mad Men and got really into that

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

No

24. What was the best book you read?

I didn't read many "new" books this year (I reread "comfort" books)
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Adele (though I'm hardly a groundbreaker, am I?!)

26. What did you want and get?

I asked for CDs by Adele ("21") and Lady Antebellum ("Own the night"), as well as a couple of books ("The Unbearable Lightness of Being in Aberystwyth" by Malcolm Pryce and "All of our Thursdays are Missing" by Jasper Fforde), and I was lucky enough to be given all of them

27. What did you want and not get?

Love and affection

28. What was your favourite film of this year?

I don't seem to see films any more

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I turned 42 (God help me) in May. To be honest, I can't really remember much about it. I know it was better than last year, but it certainly wasn't memorable

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Being loved

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?

*snort*

32. What kept you sane?

Facebook (corny, but true), and seeing my closest friends

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Pat Monahan - still

34. What political issue stirred you the most?

I'm still not really interested in politics, but the DSK scandal was at least entertaining

35. Who did you miss?

My friends in England - I don't see them nearly often enough

36. Who was the best new person you met?

Ummmm...

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011

When the chips are down, staying up late watching YouTube videos and scarfing down chocolate is really only a temporary fix

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year

Same as last year: it's from Train's early hit, "Meet Virginia":

"She pulls her hair back as she screams, "I don't really want to live this life!"

25 things the internet doesn't know about me

Yes, of course this is a meme I picked up from Avitable... and one of the things NOT on this list is my inability to ignore a meme...

Anyway, here we go:

1. When I was 6-7, I attended a very strict school in the south of Scotland and was the only girl in the entire school (it was an interesting experience, to put it mildly).
2. During my time at that school, I had the palm of my right hand smacked with a metal ruler by the teacher as part of a punishment meted out to the entire class. It hurt like hell.
3. The only PE class I consistently enjoyed was also at that school - the boys all played rugby, but for once my mother put her foot down and refused to let me do that (thank God), meaning that I ended up playing badminton with the headmaster's wife every day. Fabulous.
4. I'm not a particularly spiritual person, yet I know that the night my beloved aunt died, way back when I was 21, and far from both my home and hers, our souls connected - she died at the exact same time I was lying on the floor of the jazz club in my university town (held in a fabulous old building with stained glass windows) in a pool of moonlight reflecting through the stained glass. I felt peaceful. (Don't ask why I was lying on the floor...)
5. I cannot ever imagine being able to eat oysters.
6. I love junk food, even though here in France it's virtually treason to admit to such a thing. Meaning I don't eat it very often (probably a good thing). But the cravings are there...
7. I love trashy TV shows, even though I'm pretty much an intellectual snob.
8. Oh yeah, I'm an intellectual snob!
9. I don't think I actually know what it feels like to be truly happy.
10. One of my biggest fears for my girls is that their love lives will be like mine - non-existent for way, way too long (never even went on a date till I was about 21, never got a Valentine's, never got asked out, never heard that anyone had a crush on me), then intense and exclusive for a long time, and finally back to being alone again.
11. I feel woefully unsuited to explaining the finer points of boy-girl relationships to my girls.
12. I am hopeless when it comes to putting on make-up (which is why I rarely wear any).
13. I didn't learn to swim till I was 30.
14. Since learning to swim, I've almost never been in water and am now back to not being able to swim again.
15. The thing about how you never forget how to swim is CRAP.
16. I have always wished I were more athletic.
17. When I was in primary school, I wished my name were Wendy.
18. I would love to learn to dance the salsa and the tango.
19. I hate my skin - both its colour (white as hell, prone to bluish and orange splotches in cold weather, bright redness in hot weather) and its extreme sensitivity.
20. I passed my driving test in 1990 and have essentially never driven since (I've mentioned this before), but am hoping to find the money to take a few (a lot of) "refresher" lessons sometime in the next 12 months.
21. I have never owned, nor ever wanted to own, a dog.
22. I am pathologically terrified of dentists (because I have big gum problems) and haven't been for longer than I'm willing to admit (because I have excellent - but ugly - teeth, no fillings, no bridges, no crowns).
23. I haven't ridden a bicycle since I was 19.
24. I think I have a pretty good rack (apart from the whiteness of my skin, of course), and it's almost certainly the part of my body I find the least offensive.
25. I often feel guilty for not missing my mother because we didn't have a bad relationship. Yet I don't miss her. At all. (Though I do miss having "a mother", just not mine.)

I've just read these back, and now suspect that I sound like a cold-hearted basket case. Which may be partially true, actually (I would baulk against "cold-hearted").

Random

Yet another meme, I'm afraid, and of course it's from Avitable, who seems to enjoy them as much as I do...

1. Who would you like to show up at your door to say they love you?

Johnny Depp, Pat Monahan or Puck from Glee (though not all at the same time)

2. Last furry thing you touched?

Easy - my cat, Tom
3. How many drugs have you done in the last three days?

Apart from small amounts of caffeine and chocolate, only cetirizine (an anti-allergy drug). Boooo-rrrinng
4. Do you miss film or does digital work for you?

Much prefer digital - no more paying for prints of shitty photos!
5. Favorite age you have been so far?

In retrospect, I guess about 28 or 29 was pretty good (though I doubt I would have said so at the time)
6. Your worst enemy?

Myself, without a shadow of a doubt. Failing that, my ex who seems to hate me without even fully realising it most of the time, which scares the shit out of me.
7. What is your current desktop picture?

A psychedelic Windows offering of hearts and swirls and stuff. Nothing original, but I like it.
8. What was the last thing you said that was funny?

You'd have to ask the people I was talking to...
9. If you had to choose between a million bucks or to be able to fly what would it be?

Right now, given the severity of the debt I'm in, I'd choose the money, but I think ultimately flying would be a better bet.
10. Who can’t you say “no” to?

Myself - I have almost no self-discipline for the things I should have.
11. The last song you bought or downloaded?

"Meet Virginia" by Train (She pulled her hair back as she screamed, "I don't really want to live this life!")
12. What time of day were you born?

About 6 am from what I've been told.
13. What’s your favorite number? Why?

I don't have one. But I dislike 4 and 6...
14. Where did you live in 1987?

For the first 9 months, I was still living with my parents down in the Conservative heartland south of England (West Sussex). From October, I was a student at St Andrews University (where Prince William went, though much later in his case) in Scotland, most famous for a) golf *yawn* and b) the opening beach scene from the 1981 film, "Chariots of Fire", even though in the film it's meant to be Kent.
15. Are you jealous of anyone?

No one in particular, more generically people who don't have to worry about money all the time, and people who are loved and in love and not scared of spending the rest of their lives alone.
16. Is anyone jealous of you?

I seriously doubt it.
17. It’s been almost a decade. Where were you when 9/11 happened?

Easy. I was home, working and totally freaked out (not by what you think): I was pregnant for the second time and 9/11 was the day when I was exactly the same number of days pregnant as I was with my first pregnancy when my baby inexplicably died. I was a bundle of nerves all day and when the news started coming through mid-afternoon (remember, I'm in France, so we're 6 or 7 hours ahead) I was so shocked and disturbed by the awfulness of what was happening, plus my own personal stress, that I ended up getting contractions, freaking out further still and ending up in hospital for 6 days (my daughter was born safe and sound, though one month early, later in 2001 but it was a scary time for me all the same).

Another great meme - all about MEEEEEEE

Yet another great meme from Avitable (where does he get them from?), and you all know I can't resist a good meme...

1. Do you have any scars? If so, pick one and explain how you got it.
I have a small scar on the palm of my left hand, kind of near my wrist, from when an A1 bitch at school decided to see what a stapler would do to skin - I was a total wimp and didn't fight her off nearly as much as I should have done and ended up with a staple in my hand. Hurt like hell for a little while, pissed blood like something from a horror film but of course wasn't at all serious. Nice, staple-sized scar though.
2. What is on the walls of your bedroom?
Apart from dust, you mean? Right now, just a framed poem from my daughters to my ex for father's day. I'm hoping, one day, to get something I like up on the walls, but I'm pretty pathologically lazy so it's taking time...
3. Do you snore, grind your teeth, or talk in your sleep?
Not that I'm aware of, but who would know? I used to sleepwalk when I was a kid, but don't do that any more (and haven't for years, in fact).
4. What type of music do you listen to?
I'm pretty eclectic - sometimes it can be classical music (though never opera, can't stand it), or 1980s New Wave, or indie rock or modern pop... This last week, I've listened to Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, the Lost Boys sound track, Glee, Lady Antebellum, Madonna and the Smashing Pumpkins...
5. What time were you born?
From what I've been told, 6.30 am or thereabouts
6. What do you want more than anything right now?
Some TLC with a sexy man wouldn't go amiss. Failing that, an end to my allergy-related blocked up nose would be less sexy but pretty good too
7. What do you miss?
Being loved
8. What is/are your most prized possession(s)?
I love my books and souvenirs, and I'd be devastated to lose my photos
9. How tall are you?
About 5'8'' last time I checked
10. Do you get claustrophobic?
Not in the classic sense - my head is claustrophobic in those horrid rubbery swimming caps you have to wear in all swimming pools (here in France, anyway), otherwise, no
11. Do you get scared in the dark?
Sometimes
12. Who was the last person to make you cry?
A tough one as I'm pretty "à fleur de peau" right now and just about anything can make me cry; the last person was probably myself, in one of my woe-is-me moments that tend to happen late at night
13. What’s your worst fear?
That I end up spending the rest of my life alone
14. What kind of hair/eye color do you like on people who you’re attracted to?
When I was a young girl, I thought I was attracted to blond men with blue eyes, but in reality, when I look at the actors/musicians etc. I find sexy, they actually tend to have dark hair and either dark eyes or blue eyes (Johnny Depp, Pat Monahan, Montgomery Clift...)
15. Where can you see yourself proposing?
I can't ever imagine myself proposing to anyone - I'm 41 and have never had anyone ask me to marry them, I'm single (and possibly terminally so) and terribly shy and socially awkward, so me jumping in and popping the question just seems unrealistic doesn't it?
16. Do you like coffee or energy drinks?
I've never had an energy drink, and I can only drink very weak, milky coffee (I never order coffee when I'm out here - French coffee is so bitter it makes me wince just thinking about it), and rarely drink that. I prefer tea. Oh, and copious amounts of Diet Coke (is that an energy drink? It peps me up...)
17. What is your favorite pizza topping?
Ham and pineapple because it's a) hard to find here and b) the one most people hate so I don't have to share HA!
18. If you could eat anything right now, what would it be?
Well, now that you've mentioned pizza, I could quite fancy one of the those. Otherwise, some lasagna would be nice (it's lunchtime here and I haven't even had breakfast yet)
19. What is your favorite color?
Yellow, and purple, often together
20. Have you ever eaten a goldfish?
Why on earth would I ever have done that?
21. What was the first meaningful gift you’ve ever received?
My ex gave me a kitten back in 1997 and that was the best present I've ever received, though I'm not sure it was meaningful
22. Do you have a crush?
I have adolescent-type crushes on actors and musicians, none on people I actually know
23. Are you double jointed?
I very much doubt it. I was a seriously unathletic kid and do little exercise (apart from endless walking to and from work/school/town) now
24. What is your favorite clothing brand?
For myself, I tend to buy reasonably priced mail order stuff from La Redoute; for my daughters, I love Boden stuff
25. Who is your favorite female/male celebrity?
Favourite female celebrity? Hmm Probably Helena Bonham-Carter because she's naturally whacky, not just trying to be clever like Lady Gaga. HBC is also a wonderful actress, a very beautiful woman. Male celebrity? Well, for the last few months my crush has been on the delicious Pat Monahan, and there's no sign of it fading so far...
26. Do you have a pet right now?
Yes
27. What kind is it?
He's a rather chunky, very fluffy, vastly intelligent, deeply sensitive, totally adorable cat called Tom, the love of my life
28. Would you fall in love knowing that the person is leaving?
I don't think you can rationalise love like that. Either you fall in love or you don't; if the person's leaving, that's hard, but there's not much you can do about it
30. Say a number from 1 to 100?
Why?
31. Blondes or brunettes?
REDHEADS!
32. What is your favorite quote?
"Un homme seul est en mauvaise compagnie" Paul Valéry, a French poet from the region I live in (translates as "a man alone is in bad company")
33. What is your favorite place?
On a mundane level, my bed - I love being in bed, all my worries seem to fade. In a more geographical sense, I've always had a good time in Italy (been 3 times - Florence, Rome, Siena, Venice, Turin, Bergamo, Lake Como) and Lake Como is the most beautiful place I've ever been I think.

Sucker

Much as I could go on about my many woes pretty much endlessly right now, I'm guessing my reader (how are you?) is probably fed up to death with that, so, being a sucker for memes, I've decided to borrow this one from Avitable...
• Guilty pleasure. Eating crap when no one's around to criticise me.
• Something that inspires you. Beauty in the natural world.
• The five songs you would have with you on a desert island and why. "Walking on sunshine" (Katrina and the Waves) to make me happy, "Girls just wanna have fun" (Cyndi Lauper) to make me dance, "Stuck in a moment" (U2) to make me cry, "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen) for when I'm feeling Leonard Cohen-y and "Wild thing" (The Troggs) for the rest of the time.
• What you imagine paradise to be like. Somewhere where the weather is always good, where nothing bad ever happens and where you never feel out of place or out of synch.
• A thank you letter to someone who has changed your life. To my two best friends in England, J and M, for always being here (even virtually) when I need you, and for making my life better. I miss you guys!
• Earliest thing you can remember. Playing games with my father in our entrance hall when I was about 2.
• Favorite cover of your favorite song. Not sure that my favourite song has actually been covered, but I love Sinead O'Connor's version of Prince's "Nothing compares 2 U" and, though absolutely not my favourite song, I love Springsteen's version of "Santa Claus is coming to town"
• Someone you think would make a good president. Here in France? No idea - it's like choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea, though our current incumbent seems to have a serious God complex. Elsewhere? I always thought (bearing in mind I'm not in the US, have only been once and know little about the country's politics) Al Gore would have been quite cool...
• Five things you want to see change. 1) I want there to be a selection process for entry to French universities; 2) I would love to see work paid at its just value (so, I'd increase salaries for nurses, teachers, dustbin men... and lower them for real estate agents, lawyers, accountants, politicians...); 3) I would like Britain to join in with the rest of Europe and give up on its "special relationship with the US" delusion; 4) I would love all religion-based conflict to just stop and 5) I'd like premature babies who die in utero to be given "child" status, even when they're born before the arbitrary legal "cut-off" point.
• A dream you had this past week described in detail. Insomnia rules right now, so no dreams to talk about...
• Favorite picture ever taken of yourself. These are very, very few and far between... Though I do quite like one taken on my 40th birthday (last year) with my two sweet girls...
• Your favorite musical artist’s life story. Not sure of this either, but I loved Oliver Stone's "The Doors" too.
• A memory that never fails to make you laugh. The infamous J-falling-under-a-Young-Conservative story from my student days - I love this story so much, and I wasn't even there!
• Best mashup you’ve ever heard. I'm too old, clearly, as I have no idea what a "mashup" is if it doesn't involve potatoes and mayonnaise...
• A moment, phrase, or song that has changed your life the most. "A person's a person, no matter how small" from Dr Seuss' "Horton Hears a Who"
• Something that you want to do within the next five years. Climb out of debt and find happiness.
• What you want to remembered for. Being a good mother.
• A picture that makes you feel. I love Emil Nolde's "Lichte Meerstimmung"
• A passage from a book that has touched you. Can't find the quotes right now (hell, I can't find the BOOK in this mess), but there are many passages from Waugh's "Brideshead Revisited" that touched me when I was younger, so I guess they still would now!
• A band that you immediately liked and the song that made you like them. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and "Joan of Arc" - first single I ever bought!
• Your favorite medium of art. Cinema.
• Someone you would give your life up for without question. My daughters.
• Most awkward first impression you feel you’ve ever given. Way, way too many to count I should think!
• Something you did as a child that other people remember you for. Winning the 3-legged race for 3 years in a row with my friend Sara, having failed wretchedly in every other athletics event.
• Something you would do if no one stopped you or if you knew you wouldn’t fail. Be a writer.
• Your definition of love. Accepting the failings of the one you love, loving unconditionally, having total trust in the other.
• Your definition of the meaning of life. Raising the next generation and realising that the world will be a better place thanks to your children (modest, I know).
• A moment you remember being completely happy in and a description of why you believe you were. What is your definition of happiness? I was happy on holiday in Italy (Lake Como) in August 2008. The place was beautiful, breathtakingly beautiful, the weather was good, my daughters were being adorable and I felt happy in my "marriage". Huh.
• What you live for. To make my children happy, healthy, fulfilled adults.
• Ways you believe you have grown over the past thirty days. My partner and I separated just over 30 days ago. Since then, I've become stronger, more independent.

Soooo excited!

After all this time with (let's be honest here) this place being a virtually traffic-free zone, for the very first time, I'VE BEEN TAGGED!

OMG, I'm soooooo excited! It's made my day!

So, thanks to the hilarious-in-the-face-of-adversity-and-other-times-too Cha Cha, here's my first ever tagged meme!

First off, here are the rules:
1. Link to the person who tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself.
3. Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
4. Let each person know that they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

So, here we go:

1. I have frequent conversations with myself, often out loud (assuming I'm on my own), recounting parts of my life, kind of as if I was writing an autobiography (as if anyone would be interested).
2. When I have these conversations, for some reason I often use an (unidentified/unidentifiable)American accent. And of course I'm not American.
3. I seemingly have an almost limitless capacity for sneezing. Loudly.
4. I am hopelessly addicted to stationery, art-and-craft supplies and the like, even though I rarely do anything writer-y or arts-and-crafts-y.
4. I love shopping from catalogues and spend hours browsing the many I receive through the mail.
5. I am very often cold - even in summer on the beach here in the South of France - and my feet can stay cold for more than 4 hours in bed in winter.
6. I find many foodstuffs impossible to eat simply because of the way they look.
7. I am a compulsive reader of novels and often read the same novels many, many times.

Now, aren't you glad you read that?

I bet you all think I'm schizophrenic after the first two... But I don't think I am (though I guess they all say that). Never mind or, as my fabulous school Latin teacher used to say, "numquam mens". Ha! Ha!

Now, my 7 random victims:
1. The Cheeky Lotus, coz she probably needs some fun in her life right now
2. Jenn's Journal, coz she has a great blog (and a great cookery blog, too)
3. No Place Like It, another English-speaker in France
4. The Duchess of Earl, yet another English-speaker in France
5. Linda, because she's hilarious and makes me feel more normal
6. Beth, because I've been reading her for ages
and, finally
7. Moreena, because hers is the first blog I started reading

The only problem is that most of these lovely ladies have never heard of me (I'm not big on commenting, just avid reading) and will now probably hate me for tagging them...

But I'm still so excited about being tagged that I don't care!

Another meme!

Don't know why I like these things so much... It's not like I'm ever really stuck for words!

Anyway, I picked this one up via Avitable via Sunday Stealing and it tickled my fancy (though I'm not sure what the connection to woman's work is - maybe I'm just being dense).

Give it a try! PS I know there's no 35, but I've cut-and-paste this as I found it...

The woman's work 45 meme

1. Do you like blue cheese salad dressing? Not much
2. Favorite late night snack? Anything unhealthy I can get my hands on
3. Do you own a gun? Absolutely not (my daughters have water pistols - does that count?)
4. What’s your favorite drink at Starbucks or other specialty coffee shop? I don't really drink coffee, but something really milky and not sweet or strong if I had to choose
5. Do you get nervous before doctor appointments? Totally freak out (except for my gynae, who's a sweetheart)
6. What do you think of hot dogs? Not a huge fan
7. Favorite Christmas song? Much as I loathe most of his other stuff, I get really emotional listening to Chris de Burgh's "A spaceman came travelling"
8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning? Nothing
9. Can you do push-ups? You must be joking
10. What’s your favorite piece of jewelry? Changes all the time
11. Favorite hobby? Reading
12. Do you have A.D.D.? I seriously doubt it
13. What’s one trait that you hate about yourself? My lack of self-discipline
14. The last disease you contracted? Some hideous "thing" that makes me sneeze ALL.THE.TIME
15. Name 3 thoughts at this exact moment. Why am I up so fucking late AGAIN? Will anyone ever read this? How the hell am I going to get up tomorrow morning?
16. Name 3 drinks you regularly drink? Water, Diet Coke, detheinated (is that a word?) tea
17. Current worry right now? Money, always and ever
18. Current hate right now? Always worrying about money
19. Favorite place to be? In bed, asleep
20. How did you ring in the New Year? After an argument with my partner, I sat and watched the fabulous Hairspray DVD with the delectable Zac Efron (yum, yum). I consider it a good New Year's Eve, though probably no one else would

This is a post that is NOT about Obama!

Yes, I know, I should be writing about the momentous events of yesterday in the States... but really, it's all been said (and better) by others... Suffice it to say that I am WELL PLEASED.

So, instead, here's another meme - feel free to steal it and use it, but let me know so I can come and see your answers. By the way, I picked it up from Pardon the Egg Salad, whom I found whilst reading I am doing the best I can. This is an Alphabet list...in case you didn't get it!

A. Attached or Single? Attached
B. Best Friend? The godmothers to my daughters, Marie and Jenn
C. Cake or pie? Well, I love both, but if I had to choose, would probably choose cake
D. Day of choice? Saturday
E. Essential item? A good book
F. Favorite color? Yellow
G. Gummy bears or worms? Don't know what worms are (apart from the wriggly things you find in gardens), so I'll have to say gummy bears
H. Hometown? Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England (though I only lived there for about 6 months or so)
I. Favorite indulgence? Nestlé Onouga chocolate - absolutely fabulous
J. January or July? Easy. I hate being cold, so this has to be July
K. Kids? Two living daughters, C aged almost 7 (27/12) and L, who was 4 and a half on 27/10. Plus one daughter stillborn on 13/07/2000, the WORST day of my entire life
L. Life isn’t complete without? Love
M. Marriage date? Not married, no plans ever to be so
N. Number of brothers and sisters? None
O. Oranges or Apples? Much as I love orange-flavoured things, or orange-based things, I don't much like eating the things themselves, so apples it has to be
P. Phobias? Spiders, without a doubt
Q. Quotes? "Un homme seul est en mauvaise compagnie." -- Paul Valéry
R. Reasons to smile? My two beautiful, bright little girls, my overweight but otherwise purrfect cat, a beautiful sunset and, of course, D, the man who manages to put up with me and has done so since 1996...
S. Season of choice? Spring - everything comes to life and summer is still to come
T. Truth or dare? I'm far too much of a coward to choose anything other than truth!
U. Unknown fact about me? I have a pretty phenomenal memory for trivia, like the dates of everyone's birthday - even people I barely know. If you tell my your birthday, I'll remember it!
V. Vegetable? I adoooorrree roast parsnips, but parsnips are almost impossible to find here in France, unfortunately
W. Worst habit? Going to bed way, way too late. Every damn night
X. X-ray or Ultrasound? I've only ever had X-Rays for nasty things, whereas the Ultrasounds allowed me to see my babies before they were born, so Ultrasounds
Y. Your favorite food? Chocolate
Z. Zodiac sign? Taurus. This means I supposedly love the earth, the country, all things rural... Have to say that that is wildly, wildly untrue - me, I love cities first and foremost, and the sea second!
