Accent

There's an "accent" vlog thing going round the internet right now. I've watched a few of them and find them fascinating. Now, to be fair, I'm not particularly good at identifying American accents (for me, you could summarise them as "New York", "south" and "the rest", which is pretty shameful, I admit), but the ones I've listened to just sound "American" to me, nothing more.

Now, this accent thing is pretty much like a meme - and you know I can't resist a meme! Also, I have only seen American versions of this so far, so the idea of doing a British version really appealed.

So, for your enjoyment, I now present you with Magic27's accent vlog. All I ask is that you:

a) Ignore the mess you can see behind me. I clearly didn't put much thought into this - hey, it's midnight, I'm tired! - and didn't think to tidy up (or do cosmetic tidying) behind me...

b) Also ignore my obvious ill-at-easeness - I loathe being filmed, I loathe hearing my voice (I always sound like I have a shitload of marbles in my mouth or something).

I hope you enjoy it!

As a fellow brit, you definitely do have an accent - I can hear south England, and the south coast in there, but no trace of scots.

I love it! All the U.S. ones were sounding the same to me, too!

So glad some Europeans are joining in the fun!

That was fun, I love watching these! Thank you for your comment on my blog, I just had to come by and listen to yours too!

So many of the words sound like mine but for a kiwi accent, mine is considered to lean more towards the Queen's English than a strong kiwi accent (the lower the socio-economic bracket, the stronger the accent for the most part). I could listen to your accent all day but cringe when I hear my own!

It was funny with the slaters, when I pick up a plant and there are slaters under it, they always run away and dont roll into a ball so it didnt spring to mind...but I totally call them slaters. And of course it is a trolley, is that a British word that has been passed on to New Zealanders?

I have that same thing you have where I've seen so many of these I knew what a sun shower was, but until this meme I'd never heard it.

Now I would call it a sun shower. I LEARNED IT FROM THE INTERNET!

Yay, another British one! Thanks for directing me over to this. Loved it!

I came across your blog via Circle of Moms! I’m a newly single mother of two that runs half marathons in my spare time and I look forward to learning from you … as I try to balance everything.
Thanks for putting your thoughts out there for others to learn from!
